Firefox 3 Toolbar Choices

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

You have a Choice!

Firefox 3 Toolbar ChoicesIn Newgrounds Classic for Firefox 3, you will have a choice between toolbar styles.

You’re first choice listed as Option 1 in the picture, will be to keep the Newgrounds inspired look that NG Classic started with. The second choice(Option 2), is to go with a new style that matches the Newgrounds style even and was the full screen icons for Firefox 2.

This will be done using a line your userChrome.css, similar to the way you stop the animation.

Current Improvements over Firefox 2

Well other than the toolbar choices, NG Classic is also being aimed at being relatively friendly when it comes to addons.

This is why certain properties such as text colour can change depending on the location. I am hoping this will improve support for movable or otherwise known as dockable addons.

Of course this will only be proven when such an addon becomes available for Firefox 3 but the groundwork has been laid and as these addons become available I will develop it further.

1.4.0.2 Released + Firefox 3 Preview

Monday, December 24th, 2007

It’s Christmas Eve over here and 1.0.4.2 was released a few days ago. This version allows you to stop the animation and after some testing of memory and cpu usage it allows Newgrounds Classic to run on less than a tenth of the resources. This means that old or less powerful computers can use this theme without lag.
To download the latest version, use the link in the menu.

FF3 First Look

Firefox 3 Preview 24/12/2007Firefox 3 is very different to FF2 and it will take some time before I can make it compatible with both.
This screenshot shows that work is going very well and much of the main interface is complete. I am currently working under linux and have yet to test NG Classic on other platforms and still need to make the new toolbar icons. I plan to replace all icons starting from the major ones to the minor to ensure the same Newgrounds inspired look I had for previous versions throughout the entire theme.

1.0.4.2 Coming Soon…

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Since this adds an important feature for low-end computers, I thought I’d announce it early and explain this new feature in detail.

Stop Animation

That’s right, even though this is an animated theme, I’ve decided to add a feature that stops animation.

While using this feature NG Classic will run on less than half the resources and all animation will stop, with the exception of the tanks.
I’m hoping people will use this feature if they find that Firefox is running slow and will not be deterred from downloading this theme.
Simply add the line explained in the FAQ and it’s done. If you want animation back, simply remove it.

A major bug will also be fixed in this version, and was found only after someone asked for the Stop Animation feature to implemented, so remember no bug reports = no bugs fixed!

Also it’s less than a week till the 25th, merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Out of the Sandbox and Charming your Aunties!

That’s right Newgrounds Classic is now on the public part of the Mozilla Addons website! You should now receive automatic updates.
Thanks to all who wrote the great reviews and downloaded it! At the moment all the reviews have been deleted by the Mozilla Reviewer except for one, but it was great reading them all!

Of course, there are new responsibilities to go with this development…

Firefox 3

It hasn’t nearly got as much attention as it should have. For shame! >:(
I’m going to start working on it very soon. This will be a new theme from the ground up and while I might try to make it compatible with Firefox 2 the focus will be on theming the new features and getting the most out of the new version. Pics coming soon.
